Chelsea 1-1 West Ham:
Javier Hernandez gives West Ham Stamford Bridge draw against Chelsea (April 08 2018)

Substitute Javier Hernandez came back to haunt Chelsea once again as West Ham grabbed a hard-earned 1-1 draw from a full-blooded contest at Stamford Bridge.

Cesar Azpilicueta poked home from close range to give Chelsea a deserved first-half lead after they dominated the opening 45 minutes of the contest.

Hernandez has a habit of coming off the bench to score against Chelsea though, and he repeated the dose when he fired in just three minutes after being introduced into the action.

Both sides had plenty of chances to win in, with Chelsea in particular being thwarted a number of times by Joe Hart as they clocked up 21 shots on the Hammers goal.

David Moyes’ side still looked lively on the break, but more importantly, managed to stand firm at the back to grind out a hard-fought point.

West Ham now have a six-point cushion over Southampton who occupy the final relegation spot, while Antonio Conte’s Chelsea are ten points behind Tottenham and Liverpool in the race for Champions League spots.

Reaction

Javier Hernandez believes he is making it difficult for David Moyes to leave him out of West Ham's starting XI - the Mexican striker had only been on the field for three minutes when he swept home the equaliser.

"This type of game are very difficult, you need to be very clever, very focused to stop a very good side like Chelsea," Hernandez told Sky Sports.

"Thankfully we got one point which gives us a lot of confidence to keep going and we have our next final against Stoke next week. The most important thing is we get one point and keep adding more points to fight away from the relegation zone.

"I'm making it difficult for him (Moyes) when he decides who starts."
