Wink Wycombe, Doncaster duo make list

Wycombe, Doncaster duo make list - (December 6th 2016)

A duo from both Wycombe Wanderers and Doncaster Rovers are in the running to be November's Sky Bet League Two Player and Manager of the Month.

It has been a stunning month for Wycombe having endured a stuttering opening three months to the campaign. They hit back with four successive wins last month, conceding just one goal and jumping from 21st to sixth in the table.

Their 23-year-old central defender Aaron Pierre has been rewarded for his fine form by making the shortlist for the monthly award, helping his team to three clean sheets and producing two assists and scoring a late winner at Cambridge.

The club could have panicked but they stuck with their boss Gareth Ainsworth and he is on the list of four who are up for the managerial gong for November.

Doncaster also had a fabulous month with 21-year-old Chelsea loanee Jordan Houghton on the list having become indispensable in a deep-lying midfield role with his vision and fine passing. His goal against Orient showed he can finish as well.

Rovers boss Darren Ferguson is also in the hunt for the managerial award. He has cured the hangover from two relegations in three seasons and has now guided his team into the automatic promotion places by picking up a maximum nine points from three games.

The two other players on the shortlist are Grimsby Town's Omar Bogle and Carlisle United's Charlie Wyke.

Scoring all but two of his side's November goals, it was the variety of Bogle's seven in four games which really stood out after his tap-in, flicked header, one-on-one finishes and a 30-yard stunner against Crawley.

Wyke has also been in fine form, scoring his first Sky Bet EFL hat-trick - against Mansfield - which was part of a six-goal haul from four games.

In a very competitive month in League Two, two other managers have stood out after impressing at the helm in challenging circumstances.

Gary Bowyer has overseen three wins from four games at Blackpool with a 10-3 goal differential to lift his side into the play-off places, demonstrating the trust his players have in his methods and love for attacking football.

It has not always been easy for Darren Sarll to win over the Stevenage fans since taking charge in February, but seven points from three games, including away wins at Accrington and Portsmouth, have certainly helped.
