and i a proper worker too, 8 lifts today, absolutely shattered.

bennythedip2 February 16th, 2009 21:47

.."8 lifts" what the fcks that ?:h?:

Tony2005 February 17th, 2009 16:06

I would guess.....

Scaffolder........:brains:

Anyway if that is right i need to get some advice on this from you Taylor.....

I have a couple of bigish jobs coming up which are at appartments and need scaffold.....

The first one they quoated on was for the steel pole scaffold (traditional) but the second they say can be done using alloy tower scaffold.....

This is 3 lifts with hop ups to dormas.....from just below the gutter boards.....

The alloy will have vertical ladders attatched to the towers....this is a much cheaper option...

Have you used this method and how safe do you think it will be compared to the traditional scaff..?

Thanks m8.

Part-Timer February 17th, 2009 16:12

I didn't know that there was a job folding sacks :-O

bennythedip2 February 17th, 2009 16:21

o:Do:D....i knew that didnt look right when i read it....

bally73 February 17th, 2009 20:09

Tony i work in the building trade and to be fair mate the alloy scaffold towers we use all the time the only trouble is you must erect them correctly for them to be safe if a builder is involved he may want to see a pasma card which means you've had training in building them traditional scaffold would be alot more expensive but if you can get away using tower scaffold use it make sure you use the outriggers failing that if it is not a big job why not invest in hireing a mewp (mobile elevated working platform ) cherry picker or magic carpet to you and me they are about £300-£400 a week to hire
Lee

taylormade February 17th, 2009 20:44

depends on what job u doing from the scaffold, alloy towers are mobile[on wheels] you can push them easy enough if on hard ground, alright for repairing soffits and replacing guttering,if more to the job, roofing etc and it going to take weeks probably better off with traditional tube and fitting, easier to work off and alot safer, move your house upto scotland and i scaffold it for £300 quid,

Tony2005 February 17th, 2009 21:21

Thanks guys....

Its not alloy tower my fault its.....Aluminimum system scaffold...?

That will be used on one job the appartment where i used to live (see attatched)...these are not so high and although there are dormers still not that bad to get to with hop ups...

As they can do these blocks in this the price is cheap especially for round here...£9870....I want the scaff leap frogged at both places to save too much disruption..

The other is an old hotel near the gallops and is another story with high dormers so that will be done out of traditional steel and although its 1/4 of the size of the ones above its still £8800....

Shame i didnt have your Scotish prices Taylor....:'D

taylormade February 17th, 2009 22:03

system scaffold[not alluminium tho] is easier and quicker to erect, same strength and safety features as traditional tube and fittings, main difference is with system scaffold you are restricted in the way it is built.my price was for a traditional house[£300 up and £200 down] not for buckingham palace and it was m8s rates.I would have to call in favours and dont want or need the extra work.

taylormade February 17th, 2009 22:11

£10k sounds alot to me for 3 lifts , its hard to see length of building tho and if its right round building and you want it for a few months then probably fair enough,if you can give me accurate sizes, i have a word with our estimator who will give you a price which will help you decide if you being over charged, gl

Tony2005 February 17th, 2009 23:03

Thanks m8

No thats the front.....theres another newer block at the back which is 2 stories plus dormers...i would estimate...50 ft wide by 15ft deep...

The whole complex has 23 flats.....that was the best price i could get and using traditional we would have been looking at 3k more...:eek!:

Mind you scaffold prices have come down and are a lot more competetive now compared to 18 months ago..

Where abouts are you working at the moment....?

You scaffs always make me laugh....your fearless and ive not met many who cant sink a few pints......B (:
