Sam Alladyce - Not worried
Allardyce relaxed on new deal
Sam Allardyce insists he is not worried about being offered a new contract at West Ham despite his current deal expiring at the end of the season. Allardyce led the Hammers to promotion from the Championship two years ago and the team have enjoyed an excellent start to their third campaign in the top flight, sitting fourth in the Barclays Premier League table. West Ham's form will be particularly satisfying for Allardyce, who was criticised by Hammers fans last season and appeared to have been ordered to impose a more attractive style of play by the club's co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan in a statement from the pair earlier this year. Allardyce signed a two-year extension to his contract in May 2013 but the former Bolton boss is happy to wait before committing his future again. "The conversations are the same as they were in the first year in the Premier League - we'll see how the season progresses and when the time is right," Allardyce said. "If it has progressed to a certain level that they want to offer me a new contract, that's fine. "At my age it doesn't particularly worry me a great deal. Contracts are made and broken in the entire football industry - it doesn't mean anything like it used to because a long or short contract doesn't protect you. "It's a winning culture you need - if you continue to win, you improve the club." West Ham's strong start owes much to the form of their summer signings who have adjusted quickly to the pace of the English top flight. Diafra Sakho has scored five goals in as many games but the likes of Enner Valencia, Mauro Zarate, Alex Song and Aaron Cresswell have all made valuable contributions. "Is this the best team I've had here? It looks like it," Allardyce said. "It's been a big bonus with the new players hitting the ground running, producing quality form straight away. Allardyce continued: "We have a good environment. My early days with Bolton taught me not to just think about the player - think about the family and how you integrate them into the culture. "It's hard to do, particularly if they don't speak English well. That's been one help we've had - the environment here is a happy one and one where everyone is accepted." The Hammers are aiming for their fourth win in five games on Saturday but face a tough test at home to reigning champions Manchester City. City thrashed Tottenham 4-1 last weekend and if the Hammers are to avoid a similar fate they will need to stop Sergio Aguero, who hit four against Spurs and another in the Champions League on Tuesday. "He has been plagued with a few injures in the World Cup and in the early season for Man City but you saw a fully fit Aguero last week," Allardyce said. "Not only did he score four but he missed a penalty so he could have had five. Sometimes you have to say he's just unstoppable. "We've got to try to focus on limiting service to him - the lads in front of the defence can make life difficult. "That's the key element to keeping him quiet because he can receive the ball even when he's marked and wriggle free. He's a fantastic finisher." |

West Ham duo win awards
West Ham duo Sam Allardyce and Diafra Sakho have won the Premier League Manager and Player of the Month awards for October. o:D ..:clap: Allardyce led the Hammers to three wins during the month, over QPR, Burnley and Manchester City and has taken them to fifth in the table, level on points with Arsenal. “The personal pleasure is being able to pull a new team together as quickly we have done, and that’s not just down to me personally," said Allardyce. “But as the head all departments in football at our club I think that, for us and particularly my backroom staff, the most pleasing thing overall is being able to fit new players into a team that’s enjoying their football at the moment and getting some exceptionally good results.” Sakho scored three goals and made one assist during the month but admitted the award came as something of a shock. “I’m a bit surprised," he said. "I’d like to thank everyone that’s helped me along the way, especially here and also earlier in my career at Metz. “At the start of the season it was quite hard but that makes me even happier now I’ve managed to win this award, but the most important thing is for me to help the team continue to do well.” |

Big Sam on: Sunderland
The manager talks to the press ahead of Saturday's game at Sunderland 11.12.2014 Sam Allardyce held his pre-match press conference on Thursday ahead of Saturday's trip to Sunderland. The manager faced questions on team news, his side's league position, the test awaiting the Hammers at the Stadium of Light and more. A lot of West Ham fans are getting nose bleeds at the moment, at the start of the season did you think this was achievable? SA: "I wouldn't have thought it was achievable before we started playing because we had so many new players. But like I've said many times the new players have done a particularly fantastic job. The other players have done a job to welcome them in and make them feel comfortable. Our team spirit and family feel has played a part and everyone is on top of their game. "I think the Swansea performance typified that, we're a very good team character wise as we came back from a goal down again. Our determination shone through as did our ability and quality. We don't just play one way, we're flexible and can adapt to the style we need to at that particular time. I think the lads have picked up on that really well and opposition defences don't know what's coming next. That causes unrest and I think our performance on Sunday was the best of the season." Fifteen games into the season, have you adjusted your expectations or targets? SA: "If we're still here towards the end of January then we'll reassess our aims. By that point we'll have played 20 games, we'll have played everybody once so we should have a good indicator of where we are. So we'll see what everybody has got in their locker, everybody would've seen what we have in ours so it'll be a question of whether we can carry it on. "We might have a little worrying spell during the Africa Cup of Nations in January, that's why I'm not prepared to do any more predictions until they come back. It would nice to say goodbye to the Boleyn Ground with some Champions League football? SA: "I'm not sure about that, we don't want to get carried away. We just want to keep on playing the football we're playing at the moment. Everyone is enjoying themselves, there's a good buzz around the training ground which is always a good sign. I think competition for places keeps everyone hungry, there's quite a few disappointed players because they haven't played as much as they wanted and that is very healthy from my point of view. It keeps them on their toes and gets the best performances out of them." Is Andy Carroll playing his best football in a West Ham shirt? Arguably his career? SA: "I think he's still getting back to full fitness and he can get better once he's 100% ready. He's had a long layoff and only a handful of games played. His confidence will get better the more he plays, his goals will help that too. Certainly in the games he's played so far have been good and I think there's more to come. "We're the third highest scorers in the League, with nine different scorers before the Swansea game. So we're getting goals from all over the team. With our options up front with Valencia and Sakho back as well as Carlton Cole and Mauro Zarate it is a very strong frontline that we can change if and when we need to." Any injury news ahead of Sunderland? SA: "Mark Noble is still injured with a problem with his Achilles tendon. Other than that we don't seem to have many problems." With an almost full squad, is it unlikely Diego Poyet will feature? SA: "He's in the squad so he has a chance. He's had some first team football up in Huddersfield, now's he back here, and we're happy he's back. At any point we could pick up injuries, we played Aston Villa and picked up five injuries that couldn't play against Everton. So having Diego back is important." Has he been knocking on your door asking to play this weekend against his Dad's side? SA: "No we haven't talked about that, he's in the squad so he's got a chance but we haven't discussed it." In terms of scoring more goals and playing more attacking football was that a conscious decision? SA: "Not really, you play the best way you can with the team you've got. We were never short of creating chances in my time here. I wouldn't say we're attacking more we're just scoring more goals then we did before and converting more chances. "We're slightly down on our clean sheet ratio so that's the only bit of negativity. If we continue to score the goals then it won't matter as much." A quick word on Sunderland, how do you rate them as opponents? SA: "There hugely difficult at home, playing them away has been tough for us. They've been struggling for goals recently, I think Connor Wickham and Steven Fletcher would've wanted a few more goals than they've got and if they had they would have converted their draws to wins. Hopefully we can keep those guys quiet on Saturday and deliver another good away performance." |

West Ham sign Canada star.. January 3 2015
West Ham have made their first signing of the January transfer window after snapping up Canada international defender Doneil Henry. The 21-year-old centre-back arrives from Apollon Limassol on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee. Henry joined the Cypriot First Division side in October but returned to Toronto FC on loan and was recommended to Sam Allardyce by the MLS side’s coach Ryan Nelsen. "Ryan was my captain at Blackburn for a couple of years and he rang us and told us about Doneil," Allardyce told West Ham’s website. "He said this lad definitely has Premier League potential and he has everything he needs. "With a little coaching from us and work in terms of how to defend in the Premier League, Ryan says he has all the attributes to be a good player. "We have invested in him for the near future, so we do hope he can make some sort of appearance this season if he settles in and does as well as Ryan thinks he will. If not, we hope he is certainly one for the future." Henry, who recently spent two spells training with the Hammers, is eager to get started. "I started with the Toronto FC Academy when I was 16 and signed for the first team when I was 17 and now I just want to continue to develop and keep growing as a player. I'm 21 and I want to get a role with the team, keep my head down and take my opportunity when I can. "I love a tackle and I just want to defend hard. I take pride in my clean sheets with the back line and with the 'keeper, so if we can just do that, it's job completed." |
So he wasn't good enough to play at the lofty heights of the Greek Cypriot League but is somehow deemed good enough to play in the English Premier League :eek!:
How the f*** does he get a work permit? No wonder the English team is crap. Me thinks a few pockets have been lined with this deal. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doneil_Henry What a star he is. He wasn't good enough to play 1 game in Cyprus, someone's having a laugh. |

Allardyce angry with Senegal FA .. January 29 2015
Sam Allardyce is certain Diafra Sakho will not be banned from turning out for West Ham and has aimed a shot at the Senegalese Football Federation for its handling of Cheikhou Kouyate. Tensions between the Hammers and Senegal have been strained in recent months and culminated earlier this week when the national coach Alain Giresse questioned why Sakho was fit enough to turn out against Bristol City when he had been ruled out of the African Nations Cup through injury. The 25-year-old had been struggling with a back problem but came off the bench to score the only goal in West Ham's FA Cup fourth-round win in Bristol, while Giresse's side were knocked out of the African tournament with defeat against Algeria on Tuesday. Sakho received criticism from fans on Twitter and Giresse was bullish when questioned but Allardyce, who revealed after the game at Ashton Gate that the player had travelled by limousine rather than flying with the rest of the squad, has again defended the decision to play his top goalscorer. "I'm not worried at all he could be facing a ban whatsoever," he said. "We've stuck to every rule and regulation in the book by the FA, by FIFA and by UEFA. We have not breached any rules and regulations whatsoever and I have to say I'm extremely disappointed by Senegal's reaction. "He (Sakho) is coping fine because he has got enough to burn his bridges with, they (Senegal) are falling out with us. "If anything we should be falling out with them but we are not, we are keeping it at a very professional level, like we always do and like I said we have done everything in the rules to comply with what is happening." Allardyce also confirmed Sakho will travel to Anfield in the same manner he made the trip to Bristol, but his compatriot Kouyate may not be available for selection against Liverpool following a late return. The midfielder had linked up with Senegal but Allardyce and West Ham had struggled to contact the former Anderlecht man and arrange his journey home - with Kouyate now expected back later on Thursday. "The other player that we had available has been difficult to find over the last 48 hours," Allardyce continued. "We know where he is but we have had trouble finding him. If you speak to other managers in the Premier League, if they are honest like I am they will tell you the same story. "We are expecting him back today after chasing him down for the last 48 hours. He could play against Liverpool." The Hammers travel north looking to pick up a Barclays Premier League double over Liverpool having beaten Brendan Rodgers' side 3-1 earlier in the campaign, with any positive result keeping West Ham ahead of their opponents in the table. Allardyce played down reports linking both Sakho and fellow summer recruit Enner Valencia with a move to London rivals Chelsea and insists he will not be looking to bring in any other forwards during the January transfer window. "By email, text or phone? How have they sounded us out?," the 60-year-old replied when asked about reported contact from Chelsea. "The only way it has been sounded out is through the media, certainly not through club to club." "With us having Andy Carroll, Diafra Sakho, Carlton Cole and Enner Valencia we have more than enough front men to cope with the demand for the rest of the season. In the summer we'll reassess our aims and the squad but for now we're fine with the four options we've got." Although a new striker may not be on his shopping list, Allardyce again said he would like to complete a move for Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher. The 30-year-old Scot has been told he can leave Old Trafford on a free transfer and Allardyce remains interested, whilst also confirming a deal is close for Hamilton full-back Stephen Hendrie - although he would not link up with West Ham until the summer. "It is still a possibility. It's not dead yet, so it still could happen," Allardyce said of a move for Fletcher. "You have to be patient sometimes. We're not desperate, as we've got several good options in midfield but we want to add to that if we can." |

Draw felt like a defeat
Downing: Draw felt like a defeat ..
West Ham will hope to respond from a result which felt like a loss by recording a victory at Southampton. Midfielder Stewart Downing told whufc.com: "We needed the win to go back above Liverpool, but we didn't lose the game and got a point, so we can go to Southampton and look to win." Hammers boss Sam Allardyce questioned United's long-ball tactics afterwards as Marouane Fellaini caused havoc, leading to Blind's leveller. Downing added: "We're frustrated because we thought we were the better team. "They played a lot more direct than I thought they would, but we dealt with it and it's the only real chance they've had." Left-back Aaron Cresswell praised Cheikhou Kouyate, the midfielder who was deployed in defence and scored a superb goal to put the Hammers in front. "I don't think he quite knew what he was doing," said Cresswell, tongue in cheek. "It was a great finish. He has come into centre-half and he did an excellent job and deserved man of the match." The late concession did not dent the Hammers' belief too much. "We are still full of confidence and we know we deserved the full three points over the 90 minutes and it was not to be," Cresswell added. "We are full of confidence for Southampton on Wednesday and we are looking forward to it." |
Carroll set for spell on sidelines :t:
Sam Allardyce expects to be without injured Andy Carroll for at least a month after the West Ham boss confirmed the striker has torn a ligament in his knee. West Ham's Andy Carroll faces yet another injury lay-off after manager Sam Allardyce said the striker could miss up to six weeks with a knee problem. The 26-year-old was forced off in Wednesday's 0-0 draw at Southampton as the visitors finished the game with only nine men following a red card for goalkeeper Adrian - a decision against which the club have since appealed. It is the latest in a long line of injury problems for the England international, who has only started 24 Premier League games since making his move to Upton Park permanent in the summer of 2013. And Allardyce now expects to be without the Hammers' club-record signing for the coming weeks - despite not yet knowing the full extent of the damage to Carroll's knee. "I think a full diagnosis is yet to come, it will probably be by the end of Friday," Allardyce said when asked about the severity of Carroll's newest setback. "It is likely to be a few weeks, the medial ligament on the side of his knee has a tear in it from a fairly innocuous collision. He is wearing a brace. "I would have thought four to six weeks out if we are lucky, depending on Andy's recovery. Some players heal quicker than others. It is a big blow for him and us. It is another blow we have to cope with." The club had initially thought the problem was the flaring up of a previous knee injury - but Allardyce confirmed that this is a new issue and has said Carroll must remain strong to overcome another spell on the sidelines. "It is a completely new injury," explained Allardyce. "We thought it might be a recurrence but we have analysed it, unfortunately it is a new one and looks more serious than the original one. "It is traumatic when someone is going through a period where you overcome one injury and another occurs. We thought we were there and then (he was injured against) Liverpool and now this one in a short period of time. "It is very depressing for Andy but he knows the process and he has to be strong to overcome this injury as quickly as possible." Whilst Carroll will be missing for the FA Cup fifth-round clash at West Brom on Saturday, Allardyce will welcome Mark Noble and captain Kevin Nolan back into his squad for the fixture at the Hawthorns. During his press conference to preview the West Brom game, Allardyce was handed a copy of the dossier distributed by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal on Tuesday. The Dutchman reacted to Allardyce labelling the Red Devils as 'long-ball United' after van Gaal's side scored a last-gasp equaliser at Upton Park last Sunday. The four-page pamphlet highlighted statistics which van Gaal used to refute suggestions United have reverted into a direct, long-ball team but Allardyce responded nonchalantly when handed the paperwork - refusing to allow the spat to linger. "I shall have a look when I get the opportunity," he said. "I don't think there is any point in me going into again. It is what it is, he has made of it what he has made of it, I said what I saw on the day and it has moved on. We have played another game in the Premier League since then and our focus is now on the FA Cup and progressing to the next round." |

Allardyce happy with Noble deal .. :t:
Sam Allardyce hailed Mark Noble as one of a dying breed of one-club men after the West Ham midfielder penned a new, long-term contract. The 27-year-old has been at the club since the age of 13 and has now signed a deal that will keep him there until 2020 - by which time the Hammers will be fully rooted at their new home at the Olympic Stadium. And boss Allardyce believes the former England Under-21 international has a special bond with supporters having held such a long affinity for the club. "Mark Noble is one of their own, there's no doubt about that," he said of his vice-captain. "He is West Ham born and bred. Somebody who commits to one club like he's done is pretty rare these days. I think it's good news for everybody. "We've got James Tomkins as well, another West Ham boy. They've both come through the academy which is what we're all striving for these days. "It's something that is becoming harder and harder to achieve. As academy boys it's great to see them still here and doing well." Allardyce, 60, feels the need for a player to have an instant impact on the first-team is a reason many clubs have decided to bring in ready-made talent rather than nurture their own through the ranks. "I think we live in a world of less patience, especially football," he added. "It's almost a week by week, month by month mentality. Long-term policies don't seem to be so attractive any more due to the need of instant success. "On the basis of that, it's harder to feed a youngster into the first team. You only have to look at when I played the youngsters in the FA Cup (last season, a 5-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest) and got slaughtered for it. "I think the system is broken. At the moment we have to get them in the first team on loan somewhere else, before we bring them into our first-team." Noble, who has a reported January target for QPR, was pleased to tie himself down to the club for the foreseeable future and insists he will strive to give his all for the Hammers. "I'm obviously over the moon because it takes me until I'm 33," Noble said on the club's official website. "I'm very happy with the contract and very grateful to the chairmen for giving me it and I'm looking forward to the next five years. "I love playing football and I love playing for the club so to be rewarded with a new five-and-a-half-year contract is fantastic. Noble is likely to line-up for West Ham when they welcome London rivals Crystal Palace to Upton Park on Saturday lunchtime, with Allardyce expecting a tough game courtesy of the Eagles' pacey, attacking talent. "I think they will come and maybe play with probably counter-attacking players," he said. "I think in wide areas they've got some exciting, talented players. Jason Puncheon, Wilfried Zaha and Yannick Bolasie are all very quick and dangerous - Yaya Sanogo and Dwight Gayle too. "But our home form is good and our performances of late have been exceptional, even though we sit with three points rather than seven. So we'll be looking to turn another good performance into a result this Saturday." |

Allardyce targets strong finish ..3:-) . March 22 2015
Manager Sam Allardyce has challenged his West Ham squad to build on their hard-earned win over Sunderland to secure the club's best Barclays Premier League finish since promotion. 3:-) (Hard earned ?? They were lucky !!) :hippy: The Irons recorded a first league victory after January 18 with a late goal from Diafra Sakho to hand new Sunderland head coach Dick Advocaat defeat in his first game in charge. West Ham had been in the European qualification places earlier in the campaign, only for a wretched run of form and injuries since the turn of the year to put pay to those ambitions. Allardyce, though, is confident the east London club can now push on to do better than their top-10 finish of 2012-13 in their first campaign back in the Premier League after winning the Championship play-off final at Wembley. "This squad needs to grow, to get bigger and better, but we need to finish this season off much better than 46 points," said Allardyce, whose current contract expires in the summer. "Certainly by Christmas we had reset our goals to make sure we were going to get more points in the Premier League than we had ever done." Allardyce will take his side to bottom club Leicester after the international break, when he hopes some of their injuries will have cleared up. "It has been a tough old period, but hopefully we will see more victories as the season draws to a close," Allardyce added on West Ham TV. "Hopefully we will have Winston Reid and Enner Valencia back after the international break, so it has probably come at a good time for us with regard to getting some of the injured players back, which would be great." Sunderland, meanwhile, returned to the north east empty handed, but with the players having at least shown Advocaat some positives to build on. The final outcome could have been much different had striker Jermain Defoe, against his former club, not smashed the ball into the stands when clean through on 15 minutes. Defender Patrick Van Aanholt also had a long-range shot turned behind by West Ham keeper Adrian before Sakho settled matters with a neat finish from Mark Noble's flick into the penalty area, which looked to come after a foul on Seb Larsson by Nene. Advocaat is confident he has plenty to work with ahead of the Easter Sunday showdown with Newcastle at St James' Park, when midfielder Adam Johnson will again be in contention having come off the bench following his club suspension being lifted after a Police investigation. Midfielder Jack Rodwell said on the club's official website: "We have felt positive (going into the game) and were unlucky not to get at least a point. "We have eight more games to go now and we have to keep fighting." Bennys view >> :news: (What a clown he his, I heard the West Ham fans wanted him on the train up to Sunderland with their supporters) 3:-) |

Allardyce expects determined City .. April 18 2015
West Ham manager Sam Allardyce is not bothered by how Manchester City will react to their slump, only that his own players produce the goods at the Ethiad Stadium on Sunday. A terrible run of form has seen City slip down into fourth place, their 4-2 loss to rivals Manchester United leaving Manuel Pellegrini's side well adrift of leaders Chelsea and now in a battle to stay ahead of Liverpool in the race for Champions League qualification. However, West Ham are also in need of some consistency, with a stoppage-time goal conceded at home to Stoke denying them what would have been only a third league win of 2015. "I am more concerned about getting the best out of my team," said Allardyce, whose side are now in 10th place, having once looked set for a European qualification challenge themselves. (Oh you clown 3:-) ) "Maybe City are a wounded animal and they might come out all guns blazing or they might be tentative. We won't know until the match starts. :hippy: "We are expecting them to put in a determined performance in front of their own fans." Allardyce added: "The motivation for our players should be that they have let themselves down by not achieving the results that they should have done from the positions we have been in. "We want to get the feel-good factor back by winning a few games and getting the confidence back up." :bounce: Allardyce believes the Irons can yet go on to secure their best finish since winning promotion back to the top flight. "At the moment we want to reach the 50-point mark or higher, that will make sure we finish higher than we have done in the three years we have been back," he said. West Ham will be without Senegal forward Diafra Sakho because of a thigh strain, but Enner Valencia has recovered from a foot problem and so will lead the front line alongside veteran striker Carlton Cole. Allardyce said: "Those two guys have to perform to the very best and find the goals we need to try to win the game. "Playing at our top level is our aim on Sunday. Whether that gets us the result or not we will have to wait and see based on the quality of the opposition we are against, because when you play Manchester City all of your players have to be on top form in all areas. "If our lads have their shooting boots on, which we need, then you never know." ..(o)< Bye bye Sam you talk bollocks, oh and what's the score at half-time ?? 2 - 0 City ,, :flyaway: |
