Golf....The British Open 2009

Thursday sees the start of the 2009 British Open Golf from Turnbury....

All four days can be seen on the BBC and in my opinion this is one event where they get the coverage spot on........:h?:

Just would like to know your thoughts on this and five players who you think are worth a punt.....

No Phil Mickelson this year but Tigers back.......8-P

Here is my 5 to win and 2 to play with at big prices.

Ernie Els trading at 50, 15/2 top 5.
6 top 5's this century, had a poor year by his standards but playing a little better lately.

Anthony Kim trading at 55, 9/1 top5.
7th last year as a rookie. A certain Major winner sometime in his career.

Lee Westwood trading at 34, 13/2 top 5.
Getting back to where he was a few years ago. Keeps the ball in play just needs that bit of luck.

Andres Romero trading at 170, 21/1 top 5.
Huge price for someone that has had 2 top 5's in 3 attempts. Not at his best at the moment but may bounce back to form.

Steve Stricker trading at 50, 9/1 top 5.
Two top 10's last twice, usually very consistent

My 2 mad outsiders are Carl Petterson @ 930 and Freddie Jacobson @ 640, free bet if they make a decent start

Nice one PT....i will be having a study tomorrow evening...

Westwood is playing well but i thought yesterday he was poor over the last 9 when he had a great chance of winning...

But you always get a good run for your money backing him and im sure there will be an opportunity of laying off at some point.....

the rough is shocking at turnberry this year and im hoping the wind blows and the rain falls which will allow graham storm to win the open at 250/1.
ross fisher at 40/1 will probably be leading by 10 shots when his wife goes into labour and he flies off for the birth .
ben curtis at 66/1 likes the links courses and won before.
k j choi is straight and at 125/1 could be a suprise contender.
soren hansen at 100/1,theres always a scandi knocking about and good value.

my main bet is graham storm , if the weather is atrocious hes a 33/1 shot and he been playing well lately, altho his recent results dont back this up.

probably pop down to turnberry on saturday and see whats going on,played there last year, stayed in the fancy white hotel on the hilltop, pure luxury, wont mention my golf score,i lost 2 balls on one hole, good luck all.

Well after a lot of.....

studying heres my selections..:t:

BEN CURTIS (66/1 )...Loves links golf and especially The Open Championship....Not the most exciting player to watch but will revel in these conditions and a top six finish would do us for the e/w momey....

IAN POULTER (40/1)..until recently not a player i liked but over the last 12 months i think his game has come on a bundle and he can now be a serious challenger in the majors and was a shade unlucky to finish runner up in the states earlier in the season. If he can keep the ball straight i think he has a chance.

JUSTIN LEONARD (125/1)..not a bloke i like after his antics in the ryder cup a few years back but this is betting and not a popularity contest so i think he will give us a good run for our cash and an e/w bet is advised.

NICK DOHERTY (175/1)..heres a player who has played most of his golf on links courses and won the Dunhill a few years back....Could well suprise at big e/w odds this week...

COLIN MONTGOMERIE (275/1)..Now i know what you are all thinking...:h?:....but i still think theres one big performance left in Monty and on a course where he had his best ever Open result this might just be the week....For sure if he starts ok his price will plummet so could lay off for a free bet ....E/W value and who knows maybe this could be the biggie....:eek!:

Tiger as usual is short (5/2) and i always feel its worth taking him on in majors...

Harrington (40/1) woefully out of form and cant be backed at any price.

Sergio (33/1) deserves a major but i just think his putting here wont be good enough and a place maybe the best he can ask for...

Anyway ALL FOUR DAYS are live on BBC starting with tomorrows first round at 9am.

Hopefully come Sunday evening we will be quids in......:flowers:
